A Labor Day tradition since 1938

2002 marks sixty-four years from the first performance of the Wilhelm Tell play by the townsfolk of New Glarus in 1938. More than 200 local volunteers join to make each colorful performance come to life. Come and enjoy this unique ethnic presentation! Our performances are staged in a beautiful outdoor setting, just a short distance from downtown New Glarus. Share with your family the drama of the Swiss story of independence, written by German play-wright Friedrich Schiller-a live theater presentation with intricate costumes and a lively cast that includes goats, cows and horses.

After the play, stay in town to enjoy the Alpine Festival, the Outdoor Art Fair and an ethnic folk costume show-a weekend full of special activities plus time to enjoy New Glarus' many other shops and attractions.

Once again this year, we offer overnight camping at the Tell Grounds. Enjoy a sing-along around the campfire and delicious Swiss campfire treats You'll go to sleep in New Glarus and wake the next morning to the sounds of Switzerland-aiphorns playing on the hillside and goats with bells wandering through the camping area. Camping includes a midnight snack, continental breakfast, and a Tell souvenir bread board made of native oak.A per person fee of $15 is charged to cover costs. Reservations are recommended because of the limited space available.

Sprechen Sie Deutsch?
